Erik Cavanagh has represented South Florida buyers and sellers since 2002, spending much of his career with RE/MAX Experience in Fort Lauderdale and building a business driven largely by referrals and long-term relationships. His own health journey led him to slowly uncover just how profoundly our homes and built environments can affect our health and well-being—and, in some cases, contribute to the very symptoms we are trying to overcome.
My own experience with environmental sensitivities fundamentally changed how I see homes and practice real estate. I began digging deeper into building science and the relationship between the built environment and human health, which eventually led me to Building Biology.
Today, I hold the NAR Green Designation and am pursuing my Building Biology New-Build Consultant certification, focusing on healthy, high-performance construction. My interests include healthier building materials, VOCs, moisture management, HVAC design, ventilation, whole-house dehumidification, indoor air quality, and EMF awareness—all through the lens of prevention and occupant health.
In 2026, I attended CIRSx in Fort Lauderdale and connected with physicians, researchers, environmental professionals, healthy-home builders, and others in the CIRS and environmental illness community. As someone who experiences environmental sensitivity firsthand, I finally felt seen and understood.
I now bring that perspective into the real estate process—looking beyond the traditional inspection, spotting potential red flags, asking better questions, and bringing in the right specialists when needed.
To me, a healthy home starts with prevention, thoughtful design, and understanding how a building truly performs.

My approach is to slow down, ask better questions, pay attention to the details, and help buyers navigate the information available to them throughout the transaction. That includes taking inspection findings seriously, encouraging appropriate due diligence, and having candid conversations when concerns arise so buyers can make informed decisions about how they want to proceed.
For health-conscious and environmentally sensitive buyers, additional considerations may come up when evaluating a home. Moisture history, visible or suspected mold, indoor air quality, VOCs, HVAC design, building materials, and other environmental factors may warrant further investigation. My background and continuing education in healthy, high-performance homes help me recognize when to ask additional questions and when to bring in qualified inspectors, environmental professionals, building scientists, or other specialists.
My clients can expect experience, transparency, attention to detail, and a thoughtful approach that looks beyond simply getting to closing. My role is to facilitate the transaction, provide relevant information and resources, and support buyers in conducting the due diligence they need to make informed decisions.
I believe your home should be your sanctuary—a place where you can feel at ease and truly at home. My goal is to help you find that.
